Plato ran an Academy in Athens dedicated to the love of truth (Philosophy). His dialogues of Socrates’ and other Athenians’ conversations are peppered with challenges, wit and occasional outrage.

If you would like to get acquainted with his work and see how relevant his observations of the human condition can be to you and our world, then just contact us for more detail. No prior experience required.

We are currently studying Plato’s Laches in an in-person group only. We can no longer offer a Zoom option. All are welcome.

Meetings start at 8.00 am until 9:30 on the following Saturday Mornings (Tea coffee croissant etc. before the meeting at 7:30 – £1.50 donation).

How our introductory courses work

A tutor presents philosophical ideas, and leads a discussion based on what arises in the group. Being practical rather than academic, the emphasis is on personal knowledge and experience. Students are encouraged neither to accept nor reject the ideas put forward, but to test them in practice for themselves, in the light of their own experience.
